Magazine Project Genre Research-Digital Photo

Image
The cover of this magazine has very warm colors, and the subject is a young woman. There is very soft, orange light illuminating the entire cover photograph, and the surrounding text follows a similar autumn-themed color palette. The text is bold, but does not distract too much from the image. It follows an auburn color scheme and wraps around the subject, making it belong with the cover rather than becoming a disturbance. The text also lists important subjects that the magazine covers inside. This includes articles showcasing people who had won photo contests (pages 8-11), techniques on how to take pictures with creative portrait lighting (pages 12-21), solutions to carrying portable lighting gear (pages 29-34), and other features appealing to the photography niche. The advertisements in this magazine also appeal to photographers. Ads for memory cards (page 3), cameras (page 5), photo prints (page 7), and photo editing tools (page 35) frequent the pages of this issue. The distribution...

Magazine Project Genre Research-Digital Photo Pro

The front of this magazine displays a woman in a long, flowing dress. The woman's black dress placed against the white windows certainly make her stand out even more. The text, which is bold and follows a certain color palette, wraps around the lady; s he is the main subject of the photo, and the viewer's eye goes straight to her.  This creates an excellent cover.       Because this is a photography magazine, the articles in this issue cover camera lens reviews (pages 18-21), storytelling through pictures (pages 22-26 and 28-30), and fashion photographs in unconventional locations (pages 32-38 and 40). There are advertisements, too - mostly in the beginning of the magazine - with some of them interrupting various articles. There are ads for printers (page 3), cameras (pages 5 and 11), camera lenses (page 7), picture prints (pages 8 and 9), and more. The distribution number of this issue is volume 16, number 6; it does not appear that this ...

Magazine Project Genre Research-Outdoor Photographer

Image
This magazine is a special black and white issue, so it is only fitting that the cover image is a black and white photo of a scenic lake and mountain range. Despite the lack of color in the photograph, the yellow, bold text gives a pop of brightness to the cover, along with a nice aesthetic that will make readers more eager to buy. Once people pick up the magazine and look inside, they will find various articles containing many black and white photographs taken by professionals (pages 12, 14, and 16), an article about narrating with photography (pages 30-31), and camera reviews (page 40-44). Along with articles, this magazine also carries advertisements. For instance, there are ads for cameras (pages 3 and 13), camera lenses (page 7), photo prints (pages 17 and 19), and more. Obviously, all ads in this magazine are targeted at the photography niche. This magazine's distribution number is volume 34, number 10 and it does not appear that this magazine has won or been nominated for ...

Magazine Project Genre Research-Outdoor Photography Canada

Image
On the cover of Outdoor Photography Canada , a stunning photograph of a forest is shown. There is a man sitting on a rock in the lower right corner, staring out into the wilderness; a river runs below him, and it travels through the forest until it disappears behind the horizon and perhaps reaches the ocean that is displayed in the far background. The trees are hues of orange and yellow, which catches the viewer's eye. After being drawn in by the colors, the viewer sees the man in the corner. Next, he or she will spot the river, and follow its trail throughout the whole photograph. After looking at the image, the reader will be intrigued to look at the text surrounding the photo and buy the magazine. In all, this is an exquisite usage of color and photography skills to draw in an audience. Inside the issue, there are articles on photo editing tips (page 9), a photographer finding his passion for photography as well as nature conservation (page 10-11), and different types of photogr...

Magazine Project Genre Research-Photo District News

Image
The cover layout of this magazine has a simple, light pink background. There are various fruits, nuts, and other types of food displayed - but with blue seeds. This abnormality makes the photo stand out. It also adds a lot of color to the photo, which can help draw in viewers. Also on the cover, the letters "pdn" (which stands for Photo District News) are displayed in a large font while the rest of the text is smaller in comparison. The simplicity of the cover helps the reader not become overwhelmed, which works in the magazine's favor. Inside, this issue entails many articles that photographers are attracted to. For example, "Building a Client Base Face to Face (pages 14-18) and "An Art Producer on the Importance of Photographic Passion" (page 54-55) are the types of topics that this magazine contains. Its advertisements follow the same niche: cameras (page 11), editing programs (page 9), and more are all in this magazine. The distribution number of thi...

Project Selection- My Decision

After close examination, I have decided to create a magazine for my project. I possess the design, photography, and writing skills to complete this assignment. My preexisting abilities combined with the new capabilities I will learn in class make me ready to bring my project to fruition. My magazine's topic will revolve around photography; I will work alone to create it. Because of this categorization, my magazine will feature various camera equipment, different shooting techniques, and more. This will play to my strengths since I already take many pictures. Due to this, I have the base skills and knowledge to fill my print product with quality content. As an added bonus, because I will be taking many pictures and experimenting with various types of photography, this project will help me grow my skill as an amateur photographer.

Project Selection-Film

Creating a film seems like it would be a very rewarding experience, but a very difficult one as well! Some facets of making a film that peak my interest are script writing and storyboarding, which are activities that seem enjoyable but I have never done before. I also believe that I would like location scouting. I have friends who could act in my film as well, which makes casting a lot easier. Obviously there are a lot of fun creative aspects to film making, but there are also some aspects that I am not too eager to try. For example, the editing software will most likely take me a while to comprehend if I do choose the film route. Trouble shooting various issues such as sound and lighting seems like it would be very worrying as well. I have made different short films with my friends in the past, and while I enjoy the end product, the process can be tiresome. Still, creating a film may be a fun involvement for me!

Project Selection-Magazine

Because of viewing multiple media products such as "The Newsroom" and analyzing various magazines, creating a magazine seems like it would be a challenging yet enjoyable experience. I like to take photographs, so stockpiling my magazine with various images would most likely be the most gratifying task for me. Also, designing the layout might be fun as well, but could also be difficult, especially when attempting to figure out new software. However, studying magazines and blog samples in class have heightened my skills and will prepare me to face this challenge if I do decide to make a magazine. Another test I may face is interviewing people, especially people I do not know. It is difficult for me to come up with certain ideas on the spot, so preparing my questions beforehand as well as doing practice interviews would make this task easier for me. Watching "All the President's Men" has also prepared me to conduct interviews, and Woodward and Bernstein's way o...
