Interview Planning
I will be interviewing Debra Markley, an art teacher at Sarasota High School who teaches many advanced classing revolving around photography. This interview will be for the article "My Art Journey", which depicts Markley's voyage of artistic challenges and achievements that will inspire my readers. I will speak to her in person and discuss a time that is suitable for our interview. During our interview, a few questions I will ask to get the best content for my readers are:
1) How long have you been interested in art, photography in particular?
The answer to this question will provide a good starting point for our interview and the report I write about it. Markley's response will be important to my readers because it will show them how long she has been interested in photography, which can display to them that becoming masterful in photography takes time. This can be especially helpful to any photographers who currently feel unsatisfied with their work. Markley's word will show them that with practice they can grow their talent. This question also displays that my interviewee has reputable experience, and it displays some background information about her.
2) How did you first find a passion for photography and how did you practice your craft?
This question is a nice follow-up to the last one, giving more detail and substance to Markley's prior response. Her answer will give my audience ideas on how to practice their photography - perhaps ones that they had never thought of before. Markley's answer will also give readers a way to rekindle their passion for art by reading the first part of my interviewee's response and use that newfound inspiration to practice the techniques that Markley states in the second half of her response.
3) How long has your career revolved around art, more specifically photography?
This response will give my readers, especially the ones thinking about starting a career that deals with photography, ideas for their future. It will also add more background information to Markley and give her a higher reputation, making her a better source and allowing my audience to better heed to her words with certainty.
4) Did you always want to be an art teacher or have a career based in art?
Some people know what they want to do for a career years before they do it, and others feel more uncertain about their future. Whatever situation my readers are in, the answer to this question will help them know if a career in art is right for them.
5) Do you recommend going through college or other schooling for photography? Why or why not?
Some of my readers may be contemplating undergoing some sort of payed schooling or tutoring to perfect their photography, such as college or an online course; however, they may be unsure whether the bill is worth it. Markley's response will allow my audience to make a more informed decision about their future.
