Mid Term Submission

The photo shown above is the cover page of my magazine, titled Technique. I deviated from my cover page template a bit by changing the placement of my featured articles as well as changing the font of my title from Arial Black to Bodoni MT Poster Compressed. I did this because I realized that Arial Black was the default font and looked much too general and bland. For the font of the smaller text, I chose Bahnschrift Semibold because it looks clean and professional.
I selected this photo for my magazine cover because it shows someone taking a picture, which directly correlates to the topic of my magazine: photography. When adding this image to the page, I had to switch the positioning of my text. I moved the text to the left because it balanced out the composition of my picture and reflected the style of other photography magazines I have studied.
Like the cover, my table of contents has diverged from its first layout. This happened because I realized that the text would not fit with the pictures in the way I had placed them originally. Also, I realized that my template was not set up how actual photography magazines are. So, I made some alterations to the table of contents to match conventional photography magazine's standards. For the font of this page, I used High Tower Text for the featured articles and the small text in the top right corner, Bodomi MT for the text that reads "CONTENTS", and Agency FB for the page number in the bottom left corner. All of these fonts are clean, professional, easy to read, and match the aesthetic of my magazine.
I used the photos I did because each one relates to photography and an article in my flat plan. The portrait at the top relates to the article "Editing Tips", shown on this page as well as my flat plan; the image below that relates to "Global Photos," which is also shown on this page and my flat plan; the portrait below that one can correlate to many articles in my flat plan like "Wedding Photography", "Location Scouting," and more; and the picture on the bottom right relates to the article in my flat plan titled "Pet Photos".
I studied many photography magazine articles and picked apart how they are formatted. I then implemented this formatting into my own magazine. This article is an interview of an experienced photographer's journey in art because it gives the audience something to relate to. It also gives them inspiration to keep pursuing photography.
I added photos of my interviewee, Debra Markley, into this issue because it shows her in her classroom and gives the reader a face to go with the article. I used High Tower Text for the article's main text and Baskerville Old Face for the title; these fonts tie into the overall theme of my magazine and make it look professional and neat.
